Led Zeppelin were, and after recent events prove, still are one of the biggest bands of all time. They are often cited, along with Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, as the Godfathers of Heavy Metal but there was more to Zeppelin than just heavy riffs.
Led Zeppelin's first album serves as a blueprint for what would follow in the rest of their career. Led Zeppelin 1 showcases the eclectic mix of styles that would set them apart from their contemporaries.
There's a huge debt to the Blues music that they loved so much which was the initial common thread for Page and Plant with artists such as Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters proving particularly influential.
There's the British Folk strand that would later reach its peak in 'Stairway to Heaven' with Page coming under the spell of the breakthrough Sixties Folk guitarists such as Davey Graham and John Renbourn.
And there is of course some good old fashioned four to the floor Rock 'n' Roll with both Page and Plant decided to become musicians at young ages after hearing Elvis.
